Hullo folks! It has been quite a time, hasn't it? I am in my last semester of the WBFP of Sterling College (VT) and in just 10 weeks I will be graduating with my Bachelor's of Art in Sustainable Agriculture with a minor in Draft Power. Draft power for those who are unfamiliar, are animals that do meaningful work such as an Ox, Mule, or Horse pulling a cart. Tuesday we were out on our professor, Rick's farm with the mules, Molly and Mindy, and the horse, Zep. It felt so good to have the driving lines in my hands. Once I'm there, everything just feels right. The universe comes back into alignment. Now, I've been looking into a lot of different therapies because therapy is just a generally good thing to engage in--be that talk therapy, or art therapy with friends and family. I much prefer my equine (horse) therapy to all other forms--except maybe art therapy. The mules just have a peace about them, a steadiness, and it gives me strength. I'm kind of scrambling to find out what I can do once the program is over, where will I go to get my equine therapy?! Now, this isn't formal therapy by any sense, but I experience just being around the animals and working with them as therapeutic. It just plain makes me happy!
For art therapy, before the pandemic, my mom and I used to devote one evening of the week to go paint pottery. Now we have switched to having art night at the cozy cottage, our home. I've been weaving, spinning yarn from fibers, and of course embroidering. For plant therapy, I have been starting my winter greens in the garage (which has a space heater for the bunnies, so it feels like a greenhouse.) They're getting a little leggy and wilty, but I checked my seeds and I still have enough of everything that I can try again if need be. I think next time I would try having the seed trays outside (I couldn't before because of frost) or direct seeding into the garden bed. I'm hoping to sell to local restaurants and groceries since I do have a lot of rare varieties of things. Updates to come! As for my business, I have started an Etsy shop at EmeraldGardenGirl (You can just type that into the search bar, or follow this link! https://www.etsy.com/shop/EmeraldGardenGirl) I have been dyeing my own embroidery floss and have all the colors I've done so far on my shop page. I also have my embroideries, and as always you can contact me at august.gramig@gmail.com to commission a piece (logos look excellent this way!) Prices generally range from $30-$60, but there are embroideries for $15 and up as well. I've also been working on dyeing yarn! Right now, I'm using acid dyes on wool, and am only really able to dye one skein at a time. Those, I have not listed for sale yet. Soon, I'm going to be working on using natural dyes, and am utterly thrilled about that! That's what all is up currently. Waiting for Spring, to be able to plant and soak up the sun and fresh air! Ready to go on nature walks and enjoy nature again! |
